A WEEK IN PAIN

This seminar will present material equal to a post-graduate program in orofacial pain, but will be presented at a level for even the beginning clinician. Participants will be presented with an overview of a university based program. Discussion is not invited, it is expected.   The International Association for the Study of Pain defines Orofacial Pain as pain of the face from local causes, neuropathic disorders or referred from distinct sites. Because of the multiple etiologies for pain focusing on the orofacial region, differential diagnosis is often difficult. Distinguishing between odontogenic and non-odontogenic pain, not only can result in treatment failure or success, but may result in delayed treatment for ominous conditions.

OROFACIAL PAIN and TEMPOROMANDIBULAR DISORDERS: A MASTERCLASS for DENTISTS and DENTAL SPECIALISTS

Participants at this course will gain a greater understanding of the various conditions that may cause orofacial pain, including TMJ disorders, headaches, neuralgias and persistent pain following dental procedures. Orofacial Pain is a frequent reason for patients to visit their dentist. Although the cause is frequently a tooth, this is not always the case and the unknowing dentist may provide inappropriate and unnecessary dental treatment including fillings, root canal treatments and even extractions without alleviating the pain. Because of the complexity of the orofacial region and multiple etiologies for pain focusing on the orofacial region, differential diagnosis is often difficult.  Distinguishing between odontogenic and non-odontogenic pain not only can result in treatment failure or success, but may even result in delayed treatment for ominous conditions.

All You Need to Know for Successful Implant Treatment

An implant supported restoration requires an expanded perspective that includes a series of prosthodontic factors - esthetics, soft tissue management and function. This course will address the restorative management of the implant supported restoration. Treatment plans assessing the appropriateness of implants in the partially edentulous and fully edentulous patient will be discussed.  A complete and guided understanding of impression taking, abutment selection, temporization and final restoration of implants will be reviewed.  The importance of implant restorative design and proper occlusion for initial stability, long-term tissue integration, and limited complications will be emphasized.  Overall an increased level of comfort with implant treatment will be established.
